gryffindor privilege is being able to walk through the halls without people thinking your parents work for voldemort gryffindor privilege is being able to walk through the halls without people thinking you’re useless gryffindor privilege is being able to walk through the halls without people thinking you’re a massive nerd
Today in my psychology the professor asked the class to make a list of who we are. Everyone is taking about “i am a sister” “i am a cancer survivor” “i am family oriented” and I’m over here like i’m a Slytherin.
Hullo Slythersnake! Since word got around that i'm a Slytherin, people have called me evil, or said that i couldn't be in Slytherin because i wasn't evil. ? (slytherin surprised me, mostly because i have a conscience, but i think it is because i'm ambitious) I have pointed out to these people that "evil" and "Deatheater" are not necessarily Slytherin descriptors. Thoughts?
Dear fellow snake,
These people sound like ignorant Gryffindors.
No where, not once, *EVER* does the Sorting Hat or JK Rowling say that you are required to be evil to be Slytherin. Nor is it a house trait, for that matter. And the house traits that ARE Slytherin values do not create moral corruption either. In fact let’s go over those definitions right now.
re·source·ful: having the ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties.
Doesn’t sound very sinister to me. How about cunning, since that one always gets a bad rap:
cun·ning:dexterous or crafty in the use of special resources
Now this one, yes, can be a trait of people who fall into moral grey areas often, but no where does it say murdering torturing thieves.
Also, contrary to popular belief, all Slytherins have a conscience.Barring Tom Riddle, they are all human and therefore just as influenced by guilt and morals as the rest of wizardkind. Look at Draco Malfoy, unable to kill Dumbledore when his family was going to be killed if he didn’t. Yes, there are those in this house that have been corrupted by ambition and power BUT THAT IS NOT BECAUSE OF SLYTHERIN. Peter Pettigrew, anyone? Professor Quirrel the Ravenclaw?
Another bad rap that Slytherins get is their “cowardice” when it comes to saving others, but time and time again there have been Slytherins who have put themselves on the line for the people they love.
The Slytherins who left the Battle of Hogwarts and then brought back reinforcements.
So let’s all say it with me: ’Evil’ is not a house trait of Slytherin.
